Helping at Sandals

We aren't traveling too much right now, so we decided to show some of the everyday fun things we do together. A few Tuesdays ago instead doing a regular girls night of gab and dinner we decided to go to our new church building and help out with the final touches. Our lovely friend Megan Clarry came too!

 (Megan & Megan)
We were water girl's at first.

Then they offered tours of the new church building, so we said "heck yes!"
Construction on the way to what will be our permanent sanctuary.
This will be the forever place of worship for Sandals church!
We came back from our tour and offered breaks to those who had been working for awhile.
Megan Clarry  jumped in on weather proofing building materials.
I couldn't find anything to do and Megan C. told me I should just take pictures. duh! What was I thinking? This piece of wood was made into a welcome and safety center.
 Sandalites sanding boards.
Megan R. did what she does best, welcomed volunteers. The arrow is pointing to her.

At Megan's table people agreed not to sue the church if they get injured while volunteering. : )
And this is the outside of our new church building! Yay for helping at Sandals!

Nikki and Kara Visit California

Last year, in December, my friend from work (at the time) who lives in Florida came out to visit California for her first time. Heather and I spent 4 days taking them to Hollywood, the Santa Monica Pier, Balboa, Riverside, two Christmas parties, Lake Arrowhead and In N Out.

Here is a slide-show of pictures from their trip:

Lake Mead take 3

I can't believe I haven't blogged yet. I'm lame for being so behind. I just wanted to say that I'm super excited for the Lake Mead video because I used my father in-law's cannon film camera for the first time. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but the camera is from the late 60's early 70's and some of the film is too. So when Megan makes the video and it seems like the pictures look super old, it's because the film is super old.

We had so much fun on the trip and I can't wait until our next adventure. Maybe we will take more day trips and document them for you!

Lake Mead Update

So we're back from Lake Mead!

We left last Friday and came back yesterday. It was fun and very eventful. The trip is usually 6 hours. It took 11.5 on Friday. We were only 1.5 hours out when the hub on the trailer broke. That's bad. We can't drive the trailer without it. Thomas and Heather drove to Auto-zone while Nick and I sat next to the trailer, to keep anyone from raiding it, in the hot sun for about an hour. Thankfully, and so very luckily, we were able to fix it and keep going. If we hadn't been able to fix it, then we would have had to leave the trailer and drive home and not go on the vacation that was planned for about a month. But it worked. We stopped at the state-line between California and Nevada and got a buffet at the casino there. SO MUCH FOOD. Once we were at the Lake, we played in the water, played video games and watched Alien and Aliens, my first time. They were great. The last day we were there, we did have some trouble with the Sea-doo. We had been riding double since we had two toys and 4 people. Then I took Thomas out to go wake-boarding and it may have added to an issue we weren't aware of. While we were out a ways from a beach, the Sea-doo died. We had to tow it back to the beach using the other water toy. Then we had to tow the toy while carrying 4 people back to where we were staying. We had Thomas and I riding double on the working toy while towing the broken one with Heather on it and towing Nick in a raft. No joke. So funny. But we had to go really slow and it took almost 45 minutes. So uncomfortable riding double AND going slow. But we made it. So now the Sea-doo is broken, probably for good. But Thomas and I don't really mind, it's been a problem child from the beginning.

Sadly we don't have much video from our trip. Our friend Corey borrowed our video camera for a cross country road trip. When he got back, the camera was broken. :-( But we have pictures. Hopefully good ones too. I'll put them together sometime soon.

Lake Mead

Thomas and I go to Lake Mead every summer with his grandparents (except for last because we were planning and spending money on a wedding). We've already gone with them this summer but we're going to head out to Lake Mead again this weekend BUT with Nick and Heather instead! It'll just be the 4 of us on a couple's weekend getaway. I'm expecting Thomas to take lots of pictures and hopefully we'll get some video in there too.

Our Trip to Redding: 052909-053109

Between May 29th and May 31st, 2009, Heather, Nick, Thomas and I went to Redding to see our friend Brittany get married. It was one of the most uneventful trips I have ever been on but also one of my favorite memories involving the four of us.

With again only 48 hours to get to Redding, see the wedding and get back home, it became another interesting experience.

We left at noon Friday and drove about 8 hours to Rancho Cordova to stay with Nick's grandparents for the night. Saturday, we headed out about 9 am and drove 2.5 hours to Redding, another small town where the wedding and ceremony were being held. We arrived 1.5 hours early but had time to change clothes and get lunch at LumberJacks Restaurant. We went to the wedding and reception and then headed back to the grandparents house for the night. On our way back we stopped for dinner at a place called Dos Coyotes. We slept at the house and then drove home the next day. It really wasn't very eventful. The highlights were the wedding and the food. But the best parts of all were the silly conversations in the car or the constant giggling from Heather and I. We just have so much fun together.

The combined footage recorded was over 30 minutes long but well worth the laughs. This main video is about 13 minutes and the outtakes are about 5 minutes. What a wonderful memory.

Oh and don't forget the outtakes! 5 minutes of Nick, Heather, Thomas, and I being absolutely ridiculous, just the way we like it.
